I added a Prom page a while back, as you may know. Links are to the right.
I added to the Writings and Chem pages.
Tweaks to the Chem page, as usual... and finally, a feature presentation. Click "Justin" to the right.
I updated the AP Chem page, adding the figures and due date. I also added my latest opus to the Writings page, titled "Bored of the rings." Check it out.
1.14.03
I'm mired in senior final exam week. I updated the AP Chem page with the latest lab experiment. Three all-too-short months of school left.
I tidied up the nav bar at the right. I've been way too optimistic about the prospects of what I could place on this page. Right now all I'm going to put up are pages with actual content (except for the nav bars at the top, which would take too long to change).
THE VOICE is up. Check the Writings section for it.
12.13.02
It's so boring around here, I don't even visit anymore.
I got into Harvard. Classes start September 2003.
Thanks to the recent acquisition of Adobe Acrobat and Distiller, I am offering lab reports in PDF format. I'm sure I'll come up with other applications as well. I hope this helps somebody. I will attempt to have my labs done a little earlier so that they are available for comparison in the future.
11.14.02
New chemistry.
11.12.02
In the interest of privacy, the Rebellion page now requires a password for access. This is NOT the same password as was required for the Holocaust essay (that password has also been disabled). You know where to go to request the password. Keep in mind that password protecting this section of the site gives me much greater freedom to say whatever I want without fear of punitive action.
11.10.02
I apologize for the lack of updates recently. I've been engaged in 'legal' battles of sorts. I also attended Yale Model Congress. I won an Honorable Mention award for the Blue House Judiciary committee... excellent. Here's a scan.
I fixed the links on the AP Chem page.
I updated the AP Chemistry page and made it a lot more informative. Enjoy.
10.22.02
I updated the links page and fixed the columns at the right.
10.16.02
Okay, this is IMPORTANT. To the right you'll notice a bunch of links. The ones with the circular bullets next to them have not been updated recently. However, the ones with SQUARE bullets have been updated. For the next few days I'll be using the word "updated" with the square bullets. But soon, all you'll have to go by are those square bullets... so make sure you know the system.
I quite obviously updated the front page. I have no idea what any of that writing means, for the record.
10.15.02
I updated the Abizaid project with some fan-submitted quotes. I updated the links page as well. There have been many minor tweaks around here, including a slight but significant change to the password-protected part of the site. Within the next couple of weeks I'll be unveiling a completely new section detailing my battle for justice at Malden Catholic High School, as suggested by a reader. Also, I'll be working on that design change I've been promising.
10.09.02
My apologies for neglecting the site for so many weeks. There will be major updates to the Rebellion page in the coming days. Also, I plan on redesigning the site and sprucing it up a little bit. That will be happening this weekend at the earliest. As usual, if you have any ideas about how I can improve my website, please leave me some feedback. I promise big changes are a-comin'... along with a far more colorful user interface.
I did a lot of fooling around with the site last night. I've updated the Abizaid project so that everything Abizaid is at the top, easy to find. I password-protected one of the essays on the Writings page, just because I'm quite sure that somebody's going to take it out of context. This way, you can read it only if I think you know what is meant by it. I also added custom error pages for 404, 403, and 500 server codes. Hopefully you won't have to see them, but click the number if you want to. I updated the Writings page, adding THE VOICE #1, which will be published on September 25 in the Crystal 99. I also archived old updates. I'm going to clear out some of the residual grime (like the summer reading page) within the week. As for right now, I have a lot of work to do.
09.18.02
By popular demand, you can now download the 6-minute Abizaid Sleep Deprivation Rant in MP3 format. You can also download the Abizaid Disco Remix by Matt Balliro.
As for actual content changes... nothing yet. I updated the summer reading page, but that's all.
09.14.02
I've updated the links page. Other than that, there are no changes. I'll be posting up this issue's best articles in the Writings section by the 23rd.
On another note, I attended an anti-Nazi protest today... I'll put up pictures when I get them back.
09.08.02
Call it a lack of creativity, but a week went by with no significant updates. I added a few things today and changed the front page, but nothing major. If there's something you'd like to see, or something you think would be hilarious, let me know and I'll put it up. Believe me, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
Update: Jonathan Mooney has donated 4 cents to this site... see the Donations page for more.
09.01.02
I have made countless tweaks and changes to this site over the past several days, and I've forgotten to update this page. I'll provide a list of changes: the Interactive page has a few familiar faces on it; a new "satire" of religion is available (a Yaksic.com original and exclusive); I've tweaked the entire Writings section a bit, but not noticeably; and I've made three other "changes" to speak of.
The first is simple: if you encounter an error, or a broken link, or a picture that doesn't load, or something that just doesn't look right, please let me know using the Feedback option. This site is designed to be optimally viewed at 1024x768 using Internet Explorer 6.0. I realize that people using both of those things are a distinct minority. If something isn't working the way it should be, let me know and I would be grateful for the update. Secondly, although people seem to love the blender/food processor on the front page, I'm considering rotating the front page's image from time to time. It wouldn't be an elaborate imagemap; merely a clickable image that would lead you here. I want to start these rotations soon, so if you are so madly in love with the blender that you think it should stay in some capacity, you know where to click. Thirdly, I'm going to begin releasing statistics about visitation habits to Yaksic.com's visitors. For example, I would have a separate page on which you could find out what search keywords were entered that led people here. I think it would be a cool thing to do, and I have the information, so why not use it? Again, leave feedback if you don't like the idea.
Furthermore, this site received 1,227 unique hits in its first 56 days since relaunch. I think that's pretty cool.
As I count down the days of summer vacation remaining, I have updated this site yet again. Now, you can download a font that will allow you to type in my handwriting. While this isn't a perfect interpretation of my handwriting (actually, it's really not even close), it's close enough for all intents and purposes. You can download this font by clicking here. To install this font, open C:\Windows\Fonts by clicking here. Then, simply drag and drop the file named ayak.ttf into the Fonts folder. The file will install itself and you can use that font by opening your usual word processing program and selecting the font named "Andrew Yaksic" for use. Have as much fun as is possible with this font, which, mind you, is not complete. I should be releasing a patch of sorts later this week... or later today... as if people are actually going to be downloading this font and using it in the meantime.
08.25.02
I updated the Incredible Abizaid Project ever so slightly. I'm trying to figure out how to make this site friendly to all resolutions... I'm partial to 1024x768 and above, as I always have been, but nearly half of the visitors to this site are at 800x600... Thankfully, not many of the visitors are using non-CSS-compliant browsers, but there are still a few that are... I'll figure something out. Let me know what you think of the new first page, the food processor imagemap, by using the feedback form.
08.24.02
UPDATE: I added an imagemap, quite obviously. I also discovered that this page looks TERRIBLE at low resolutions and in early versions of Internet Explorer... I'm working to remedy the situation.
In an exciting turn of events, this site is now (finally) listed on Google. In what was my ultimate goal all along, a search for "Yaksic" will provide this site first. Furthermore, a search for "Abizaid" will link to this page. Ah, yes.
One more change that I made: I joined the Catalog.com reseller's program. If you want to purchase a domain name, I would have recommended doing it through Catalog.com anyways (despite their ridiculous new payment policies), but now you can do it through me. Visit the links page (Away) to do it.
08.23.02
I have updated the Interactive page. I'm retrying the banana experiment. As always, I updated the summer reading watch. In other news, I shot what I believe to be a couple of excellent photos today, and I'm going to spice them up and post them. You may also notice that pseudo-banner at the bottom of the page. The font I used to create that is egotistically called "Andrew Yaksic" and will soon be available on this site as a TTF file. It is a very rough interpretation of my handwriting. Creating fonts is time-consuming, but I'm not one to be outdone. More later, I suspect.
08.21.02
It's been a turbulent couple of days. I've updated the summer reading watch. I also obtained Adobe Photoshop 7.0 today and I plan on doing some serious imaging in the next couple of days.
08.16.02
I haven't added any new content yet. Bear with me. I did update the summer reading watch.
08.11.02
I'm back. I updated the summer reading watch... my trip was amazing... and that is all. I'm working on a biographical page right now to put up, and hopefully it will be finished soon.
08.07.02
I'm going away until August 11. I expect the next update to be made on August 12 to the 'Anti-random thoughts' page... I have a piece involving sandwiches that I'm going to type up when I get back. Until then, write me and I'll get back to you Sunday. And, for the record, that summer reading page is still in date... I just haven't touched that terrible Bovary...
08.06.02
Update: I added a page where you can donate money to my... car fund. Find it at the right.
Reading Madame Bovary makes me feel like this.
More work on the site later.
08.04.02
I put up a new page dedicated to tracking my summer reading progress.
In other news, I'm proud to report that yaksic.com has received 603 visits in its first 28 days (although there were only 223 different people contributing to that number). July 26 was the best day for this site, with 279 pages served to 45 users.
I have changed the title of the Home page. I have added a thoughts page as well. More content is on its way. Remember, if you haven't seen them, be sure to check out archived site updates. In addition, I will soon be acquiring Adobe Photoshop, with which I will create images to appear on this site.
Update: I have added the file favicon.ico, so if you have added this site to your favorites list, please delete the existing bookmark and re-add it. I have also added one link and changed the layout of the links page (but not as significantly as yesterday's change).
I have completed the transcription of the Abizaid rant on sleep deprivation experiments. It can be found here, or under the IAP (Incredible Abizaid Project) on the sidebar.
I changed the color of visited links from this to this. I changed the color of hovered links from this to this. I expanded the 'Away' page significantly and changed its layout. I changed the line height (or, more accurately, the size of the characters) of links from 11 pixels to 8 points. If you have any opinion on any of this, let me know.
I've given the feedback box its own page. I'm working on an imagemap for the right cell.
The next update will take place on Monday. I'd like you to send me a link to your page so it's here when I get back, whether it's your journal, your personal site, or your favorite site... even if it's not your favorite site. You can send me more traditional feedback as well. I'm attempting to make this site as interactive as possible (despite the lack of content on the 'Interactive' page).
The Abizaid sounds page is now available!
The incredible Abizaid project has begun.
The Writings section has expanded significantly. Check it out.
I've taken a bit of a break from creating content. On the advice of Steve Stiles, I'm working with EditPlus 2 right now, I suppose I'll continue with it for 30 days. If I grow attached, I suppose I'll pay the $30.
On another note, Mr. Abizaid e-mailed me today with information about the AP US History exam. It was quite a pleasant surprise.
I will be adding more to the 'Writings' section tomorrow. For those wondering, the 'Rebellion' section will involve information about the long-fabled Rebel Alliance that was in the works after the electoral sham orchestrated by the SAC last school year. Expect a fully-functional rebel body to appear in September 2002.
I'm hoping that everyone who visits leaves a comment so I can improve this place. You'll find a box to your right and a button marked "Feedback" at the top of every page. Your comments are always appreciated.
I've added a few more features, including pictures on two of the pieces under "Writings." I'm still hard at work to get more content up, stick with it and keep checking for more.
Finally, my connection is working again.
From On the Road by Jack Kerouac:
"You must write a story about the Banana King," he warned me. "Don't pull any tricks on the old maestro and write about something else. The Banana King is your meat. There stands the Banana King." The Banana King was an old man selling bananas on the corner... "When you write about the Banana King you write about the human-interest things of life." I told him I didn't give a damn about the Banana King. "Until you learn to realize the importance of the Banana King you will know absolutely nothing about the human-interest things of the world," said Remi emphatically.
Coding by hand is more tedious than... well, letting the site sink into disrepair (as it had from 2000 until now... my previous Net adventures in the mid-90s met similar fates).
Some have inquired as to whether there will actually be content on those links at the top. Of course there will be, in time. I think today will consist of more furious coding and whatnot. I've also got to develop an archival system... I'm working on a JavaScript cookie script... indeed, I'm working on many things.
Many, many things.
Since I'm typing these updates directly into Notepad (my HTML editor of choice), you'd think they wouldn't read like a LiveJournal update... but alas, sometimes they do.
I wrote a piece today called "Jared's off his diet, but should I care?" Expect it on the writings page later today.
I expect this to become the authoritative portal for Yaksic enthusiasts... of which there are several. More than you'd think, at least.
My links page will probably be the most interesting of them all.
Please leave me feedback using the form at the right! If that doesn't work, use the feedback link at the top to let me know that it doesn't work. I'm using the technique involving a mailto tag because my virtual host doesn't allow for CGI hosting... nuts!
I will update further later today.
My Internet connection has been down for a few days. I don't expect it to be working again for another week. As for web developments, I'm going to continue working devotedly on this page. I've learned a lot from HTML 4.0 for the World Wide Web by Elizabeth Castro but the book I'm itching to delve into is Javascript for the World Wide Web by Tom Negrino. My site will undoubtedly be first-rate by the time I'm finished with these books... and the tedious coding process.
A new yaksic.com is on its way, after a certain ape told me I couldn't code my own page.
